The Weekend Homework Problem

There are many weekends where I have homework due by Monday. This weekend was a special case. I have homework in every single class. I have work that ranges from interpreting data to conducting an interview. I have financial projects due, and I have to read a book. Even just writing this is stressing me out a little.

I never know if I should do weekend homework on Friday night or wait until Sunday. It usually depends on what I’m doing on Sunday. If I’m going out of town on Sunday, I might do it Saturday. If I’m busy on Saturdays too, I’ll do it on Fridays.

There are two very inconvenient things about weekend homework:

  1. I have to spend some of my off school time working on school stuff.
  2. The work looms over my head all weekend until I’m done with it.

All of this homework guarantees hours of time used for it. So I guess I better get started.

The Weather is Frightful

It’s been a while since that warm spring February vacation. I miss it quite a lot.

WARNING: Sarcasm/Slight Exaggeration Below

It all started on Monday. I woke up, and the cold spell had hit overnight. The day before was filled with sunshine and warmth, and now utter and complete coldness. I walked down to the bus, shivering in my light jacket. Hair was up, so nothing shielded my ears from the frighteningly cold wind. The bus came and the door opened, inside I went. I sat down on what felt like an ice box, but it was a seat. So began the beginning of the cold times.

Okay now I’ll be serious.

It has been two weeks and the conditions of weather haven’t changed for the better. I am the type of person who likes snow. I also like heat. I’m not in between. There cannot be cold with no snow. That’s what is happening right now. Some days it’s 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and others are in the 40’s. A few days ago it was -2 in the morning but by the afternoon, it was in the upper 40’s. Last night it snowed, and today it rained, melting even more snow!

CAUTION: Slight Sarcasm Below

I’m only sad that the earth has given us a taste of the warm weather, the taste of freedom from our encumbering clothes, only to become cold and wet again.

The First Day Back

The first day back to school after a vacation. After summer, it’s almost exciting. After February break, it’s just not. It feels like this past vacation week lasted forever, but at the same time was way too short. I miss the warm days on the trampoline, going to bed at 11, and sleeping in until ten.

But today was my first day back. A day spent reviewing, and reminding us where we left off. They reminded me of the hardships yet to come in the 3/8 remaining of the school year. New material, and some upcoming state tests. The thought of it makes me cringe. I know that I’m not the only one who feels this way. My friends were walking aimlessly, no longer with any purpose. The only upside in the day was not having to do a ton of work. Because we were reviewing, we just talked about what we went over.

My friends and I talked a lot about our vacations. No one did anything amazingly exciting, but none the less, it is terrible that we most be back at school. No more late nights. No more late mornings. No more tasty packaged lunches. No more warm days. The cold has set in once again. Now it’s back to February.

A Dog’s Purpose Cancellation

Perhaps you have already heard of this; A Dog’s Purpose (a new movie)’s premiere has been cancelled. First, what is this movie about? It’s about a dog that is born with a loving owner, but grows old. He finds that he comes back to life as a different dog each time he dies. His goal is to find his first owner and somehow let him know that he is back, and to help his owner through a difficult time in the owner’s later life.

This movie sounds nice, and I was looking forward to seeing it, but then I saw a video on the news. It was a video that had a German Shepherd, who seemed to be forced into a fast rush of water. Now at first I was really surprised and angry, but then I learned more about what was happening.  I saw this video on the news before any statement from the movie makers was made. But I was curious about what was happening.

Now I don’t know if I believe this or not, and you can see if you do too in the video below, but according to ABC, this was not abuse at all. The German Shepherd was just not comfortable with entering on that specific side of the “pool”. The video was edited. As soon as he was on the other side again, he was very happy to be swimming.

Still, the A Dog’s Purpose premiere is cancelled, and I’m not sure if they will continue with it or not. The video below should help you make your own opinion. Is it still abuse? Should they have cancelled the premiere?

This Week’s Warmth

This week is February vacation for me. It has been amazing, all sunny, and warm. Yesterday the temperatures reached to 61 degrees Fahrenheit, which is way warmer than usual. Last year we didn’t have any snow on Christmas, and throughout the rest of the season, there was very little. Even then though, there wasn’t a day during February that was this warm.

This year’s weather is contradicting what the groundhog said. We are supposed to have 6 extra weeks of winter! I assume that this is not the last of the cold weather though.

About a week and a half ago, I was forced to shovel off my family’s trampoline so that it wouldn’t be ruined. I needed my dad’s help, after the long, cold, winter storm had hit the night before. I even had to shovel off an area for my dog outside, so she could actually walk around. It was insane. As you can imagine, shoveling for hours was very tiring.

My school is one of those schools who doesn’t take days off for snow days, unless it is really necessary. We were one of the three only schools who had to go on Wednesday last week in my entire state.

And yet this week, I have been able to go outside without a winter jacket. Yesterday I was jumping on the trampoline I had shoveled off last week, with a t-shirt on, because it was in the 60’s. Today is another promising day, and I am excited to get out there with my younger brother and jump some more.
